  • Motor Rating Conversion Table

The following tables may be used for deriving additional motor rating characteristics when the information on the nameplate is insufficient.

The tables which are only approximate, based on average values must not be used when 1 motor is marked with its own characteristics.

Following metrication, all new motors are now rated in kilowatts or watts which refers to the mechanical output of the motor. To obtain the electrical input of a motor from the Kw rating output, it is necessary to allow for the efficiency in accordance with the following formula with efficiency expressed as a decimal (ie 87% = 0.87)

kilowatt input = kilowatt rating (output)

                          efficiency

Where it is necessary to convert old motors with a horsepower rating to Kw ratingthe following formula will be used

    kilowatt rating = horsepower rating x 0.746

    SINGLE PHASE MOTORS 240 VOLTS

    Kilowatt Input =  Rating (Kw)

                           Efficiency

    Input Current =   Kilowatt Input x 1000

                            Power Factor x 240 Volts
